About the Event

At the 5th Global Ceramic Leadership Roundtable, Glass Biz Solutions presented insights on the strategic importance of localizing semiconductor-grade silica production in emerging economies such as India.
The discussion highlighted the growing global demand for ultra-high purity silica used in quartz crucibles, fused silica components, and semiconductor manufacturing processes. With current production concentrated in a few geographies, supply chain concentration in Spruce pine NC, China, Russia and Norway poses a significant strategic risk for India with vision 2047 investing heavily in semiconductor fabrication.
The presentation examined the technical, geological, and economic challenges associated with achieving <10 ppm purity at commercial scale, while outlining opportunities for India through targeted exploration, pilot purification facilities, industry–academia collaboration, and policy alignment with national semiconductor initiatives.
Localization of high-purity silica represents a critical upstream capability for strengthening supply chain resilience, enabling advanced materials manufacturing, and supporting long-term technological self-reliance.
